William was born and raised in Appleton, Wisconsin and has always held a deep appreciation for and affinity with the country and the natural beauty of Northern Wisconsin and Minnesota. His paintings reflect the deep bond and love he feels with nature. Organic shapes and forms are almost always present in William’s work, whether he is working with encaustic medium or graphite on paper. William has been working primarily with cold wax medium/oils and Pan Pastel®. His studio is located in Appleton, Wisconsin. Since earning his BFA in Advertising Design from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire (Blugolds) in December 1982, William Roberts has led a life focused on others. He draws significant influence from this service, as well as from his surroundings at home. William is known for his exceptional design skills and writing ability. Having worked for Fortune 500 companies (General Mills, Aveda, Del Monte Foods) and smaller corporations, he has a deep understanding of what it takes to be successful. One of his proudest achievements was being part of a team that won a Golden Lion at the Cannes Film Festival. The award is given annually for the best television commercial in the world. His focus has now turned to fine art, specifically abstract cold wax/oil painting. The healing power of art has helped me through many difficult trials, both emotional and physical. As a three time cancer survivor, art calms his raging heART and soul. Additional education includes but not limited too, Arizona State University (Sundevils) and the University of Minnesota (Golden Gophers). Continuing education includes the Science Museum of St. Paul, MCAD (Minneapolis College of Art & Design), Easel Training and most recently, The Encaustic Center, a unique facility where instructors teach the beautiful art of painting with cold wax and companion solvents.
